An in vitro comparative study of micro-marginal leakage of three restorative materials
A comparison of the adaptability of three restorative materials, namely silver (solila), adaptic and epoxylite has been presented. The role of cavity varnish lining in reducing microleakage has been assessed. Sixty class V cavities were prepared on caries free molars. This included 45 cavities with cavity varnish lining and 15 without cavity varnish lining. After immersing the restored teeth in radioiodine (I-131) solution and sectioning the teeth, the autoradiographs were obtained and evaluated using the grading criteria evolved by us. The microleakage was found to be maximum in solila silver and minimum in epoxylite with adaptic having an intermediate position. There was substantial decrease in microleakage with cavity varnish and thus the use of a proper cavity liner with the restorations is recommended.
