Optimization of hydrogen gas turbine power supply by means of a novel modular multilevel parallel converter (M2PC)

A novel Modular Multilevel Parallel Converter (M2PC) for an optimized Hydrogen Gas Turbine Power Supply (HPU) is presented in this paper. This new M2PC improves the energy density, scalability and variance of the system voltage characteristics, in addition to the general advantages of the HPU concept. The basic operation modes of the M2PC topology, micro-as well as macro-topology, are described by means of a simulation implementing six modules. This simulation agrees quite well with first experimental results for a 720kW system. The paper concludes with the discussion of the benefits produced by the new degree of freedom introduced by the M2PC technology. © 2014 IEEE.
