Incorporation of [U 14C]glucose into liver lipids of rats fed millet (Sorghum vulgarie) at different protein concentrations

Feeding defatted millet flour at different protein concentrations to rats for 6 wk significantly increased the amount of triglycerides (TG), fatty acids, total phospholipids, phosphatidyl choline (PC) and phosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE) in the liver. Lipogenesis measured by the incorporation of [U 14C] glucose into liver lipids was the same or lower in rats given millet protein when compared with control rats. Incorporation of [U 14C]glucose into liver TG, PC and PE in rats given millet protein was significantly greater than that in control rats.
