The following represents a review of the literature over the past several years on muscular injuries within the body's core. The first focus was on what we should call these injuries. The article then goes into more depth about diagnosis, imaging, and individual muscles. We should be providing a good name for this big body part, and this name should be "the core." The injuries within it should be called "core injuries" and then we can get into more specific names, e.g. core muscle injuries, rectus abdominis or adductor injuries. The ball-in-socket hip joint and the back should be included in the classification. We are making tremendous progress towards understanding these injuries, although the progress has not yet been articulated well. © 2014 Wolters Kluwer Health.
