TRANSIENT BEHAVIOR OF NORMAL ZONES IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL COMPOSITE SUPERCONDUCTORS.

Two approximate analytical techniques are developed to investigate the transient behavior of normal zones in superconducting composites. Based on these methods, similar theoretical criteria for the growth or collapse of normal disturbances are derived. The criteria predict the critical heat generation rate above which a disturbance of known strength and spatial distribution will grow indefinitely. The critical heat generation rate is a very strong function of the quantity of energy initially released in the composite.
