Applications of proteomics to the study of the human prostate were discussed. Number of prominent prostate proteins were identified and pilot data were obtained on the alterations in protein expression related to prostate aging and benign prostatic hyperplasia. The proteins in the 2D gels were visualized with a colloidal Coomassie Blue stain. One proteins whose abundance decreased in the BPH tissue is identified as Human Transgelin.
