A volume integral equation method for MRI-based electrical properties tomography

A volume integral equation method is presented for MRI-based electrical properties tomography (EPT). The distortion of radiofrequency magnetic field in MRI is an electromagnetic scattering problem. Thus, the volume integral equation is appropriate to solve the problem. Significant errors along boundaries of different media may occur when the traditional EPT method is applied to reconstructed the electrical properties. The proposed method can greatly reduce the errors, and the numerical result shows that it performs well in inhomogeneous regions and boundaries where the electrical properties vary abruptly.
