Natural frequencies of a heated plate: Theory and experiment

Researchers conducted a study to investigate natural frequencies of a heated plate. Natural frequencies were measured and correlated with a finite element model, which included the effect of material property variation with temperature. The researchers investigated the post-buckled equilibrium states of a clamped plate and experimentally showed mode jumping between different buckled states. They proposed a theoretical–computational model of a clamped/ pinned plate with elastic in-plane edges. The experiments were divided into two parts, such as modal parameters were measured for different plate mounting configurations and the plate was heated and its natural frequencies were measured as a function of the temperature difference between the plate and the thicker edge. Temperature measurements were taken using thermocouples at four points along the thick edge and at five points across the plate. Impact hammer tests were performed for five configurations to investigate the plate’s sensitivity to mounting and installation.
