A theory of mechanical hysteresis of geological materials under alternating loading within the yield locus is studied, with emphasis on isotropic pressure sensitivity effects. Specialization to conventional triaxial tests is considered. The feasibility of the model is examined by comparing calculated and actual test data, including those obtained in a cyclic undrained compression test which enlights the phenomenon of cyclic mobility.
