Background: Evidence from European countries has suggested significant protective effects of the Mediterranean diet (MD) on body weight and its related health parameters. However, effects of the MD among the U.S. population remain unclear. We therefore conducted a systematic review on the state of evidence regarding the association of adherence to an MD and body weight among the U.S. population.
