Correction: Nonlinear Theoretical Aeroelastic Model of a Plate: Free to Fixed In-Plane Boundaries (AIAA Journal, (2021), 59, 2, 10.2514/1.J059551)
Correction Notice This correction pertains to the numerical values of the non-dimensional in-plane edge stiffness presented in the results section in the original article when it was first published online [https://doi.org/10.2514/1.J059551]. The error is detailed and corrected below. An additional minor typographical error is corrected as well. In Equations 3 and 8, the energy of the in-plane elastic edges is defined with a factor of 1/2. Then, when taking derivatives in terms of u and v to obtain the equations of motion, the 1/2 coefficients disappear because the two transposed symmetric Ku and Kv matrices are summed. Algebraically, this is identical to what happens with the mass matrices as defined in Equation 10. The error lies at the very end of the paper in Appendix B, Equation B1, where the last two sub-equations define the elements of the Ku and Kv matrices. These definitions include a half on the left-hand side, which is wrong and should be removed. The computer code was implemented following the definitions in Equation B1 and thus the Ku and Kv matrices were multiplied by an unnecessary factor of 2 to adhere to the erroneous definitions. Subsequently, all computational results were obtained for in-plane edge stiffness values twice the original reported value. All values of the non-dimensional in-plane edge stiffness throughout the paper (in discussions or figures) are in fact two times the stated value. Specific affected figures are Fig. 4, and Figures 7–18. This correction has no effect on the discussion or the conclusions of the original article because the qualitative behavior of the results for small, intermediate and large values of the in-plane edge stiffness do not change. Lastly, a typographical error is corrected in Equation 7 where the coefficient of G
