Preview Prostatitis is four diseases rather than one, and successful management depends on accurately classifying the condition according to systemic signs and symptoms and the results obtained by examination of expressed prostatic secretions and urine cultures. In this article, Dr Moul summarizes the characteristics of each type of prostatitis, with a special focus on diagnosis and treatment by the primary care physician.
