As of December 2007, UNAIDS estimated that the number of people living with HIV in 2007 was 33.2 million, including some 30.8 million adults, half of whom were women, and 2.5 million children under the age of 15 years (UNAIDS, 2007) (Figures 1.1-1.4). © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2008.
