Bio-Based Materials in Anti-HIV Drug Delivery

This chapter provides an overview of bio-based materials that have been used in the development of anti-HIV drug delivery systems. It begins with an overview of the existing and in-development biomedical strategies for HIV prevention, followed by a discussion of the properties of various anti-HIV drug delivery systems developed as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) products. It then presents major types of bio-based materials that have been explored and used in the formulations of anti-HIV drug delivery systems. The properties and applications of each bio-based material are reviewed and discussed in detail.
