Pediatric heart disease affects many children and can include congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, and acquired cardiovascular conditions. Outcomes for children with pediatric heart disease, particularly congenital heart disease, have improved greatly. On the other hand, acquired cardiovascular disease such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia are increasing in parallel with the rise of pediatric obesity. Cardiovascular risk reduction, primarily through lifestyle modification, is becoming increasingly important.
