Valve Sparing Aortic Root Replacement for Aortic Valve Insufficiency in Type A Aortic Dissection

Aortic root replacement is a well-established option for addressing aortic root pathology in Type A acute aortic dissection (TAAAD). When aortic root replacement is performed, surgical options include a composite valve conduit or valve sparing root replacement (VSRR). The advantages of VSRR in preserving native aortic valve function are counterbalanced by a more complex, technically difficulty operation. In this chapter, the indications for VSRR in the setting of TAAAD will be discussed along with the technical nuances and clinical outcomes from high-volume centers with VSRR expertise.
