The need to establish a modeling technique which will allow the cable designer the necessary tools to shorten the development time required to establish the tradeoffs between electrical, mechanical and flammability properties of the various materials available has been a long term goal of many in the industry. Ultimately it should be possible to design high speed transmission cables with such modeling tools prior to determining which parameters wield the greatest influence on final overall product performance. The Laplace model described in detail in this paper is an initial attempt toward reaching this goal.
