Nietzsche's Path to Inner Peace

IN THE SPRING OF 2021, I went to the French Riviera to recuperate. The pandemic, my husband's cancer battles, the death of my dog from a snakebite, and a blisteringly hard teaching schedule at Duke had taken their toll on me. I was exhausted. I was determined to use my six expensive days to meditate, read, and write each day from our studio's veranda in Eze-sur-Mer. I'd planned to sip nourishing matcha in the morning while looking off into the Mediterranean Sea. At night, I'd have lavender tea with local honey as I reveled in the glow of the night stars.
