Real surface and volume terms, as determined from a dispersion relation, are incorporated in new optical model analyses of (n, n) scattering from 40Ca over a broad energy range. The energy dependence of these terms lead to a rather good description of available analyzing power measurements. In contrast to previous analyses, a positive imaginary spin-orbit interaction is not needed to fit the data. © 1988.
