Influence of turning angle on proximal sudanophilia in the daughter vessels at the bifurcation of the human left main coronary artery - initial results

Rigid injection cast of the left coronary arteries were photographed at multiple angles to provide images of the entire left main (LM), proximal portions of the left anterior descending (LAD) and the left circumflex (LCX) coronary arteries. Certain geometric features in the neighborhood of the LM bifurcation affected the predisposition to proximal sudanophilia in the LAD and LCX. The effect of contralateral turning angles (CTA) was consistent with the fluid dynamic consequences of branch asymmetry seen in replicas of human aortic bifurcation. The mean relative proximal involvement (RPI) of the LAD is greater than that of the LCX and the average CTA of the LAD was smaller.
