Method of predicting Chapman-Jouguet detonation characteristics, has been developed; gaseous explosion products are assumed to obey virial equation of state; analysis predicts detonation pressure as well as, or better than, solutions based on Abel or Kistiakowsky-Wilson equations; solution simplified to permit explicit estimation of detonation pressure.
