Frequency dependence of arterial uptake of macromolecules in response to alternating shear levels

Results are presented of a study on frequency dependence of arterial uptake of macromolecules in response to alternating shear levels. The experiments used an in vivo arteriovenous fistula preparation to modulate the wall shear stress in porcine iliac arteries. The uptake of serum albumin by the arteries over an acute time period is quantified through measurement of the intimal accumulation of Evans blue dye using an en-face photographic densitometry.
