Discussion of equations governing flow of blood through heart-valve prosthesis and rational design of streamlined valve; pulsatile flow, non-Newtonian aspects of blood, and entrance conditions are examined; concept of boundary layer is used to generate some approximate analyses; streamlined heart-valve prosthesis for which analysis techniques were developed is presented; comparison of flow conditions in streamlined valve with similar caged-ball valve is given with particular attention to flow-separation point.
