The sensitivity of a scaled-down emission spectroscopy configuration was tested with the use of (1) the fluorescence from Rhodamine 6G in ethanol and (2) the Raman emission from acetone, toluene, methanol, and water. The fluorescence results showed a linear intensity response down to a concentration of 3. 17 multiplied by 10** minus **7 mg/mL, which corresponded to sensitivity of four parts per ten billion by weight. Nonlinear signal levels extended the sensitivity almost two more orders of magnitude lower in concentration.
