The use of intraurethral devices in the treatment of prostatic obstruction
The success of endoprosthetic implantation in the treatment of intraluminal stenoses is well documented. Over the last five years, this technique has been applied successfully in the management of urethral stricture disease. Most recently, increasing attention has been turned to the application of stenting techniques in the treatment of prostatic obstruction. The prostatic spiral has been in limited use for the past decade, while the development of the prostatic mesh stent has evolved within the last several years. This chapter offers a description of each device, and the techniques and indications for insertion. Patient selection and evaluation, along with results of early follow up, also will be described. Lastly, future uses for these devices in urologic practice will be presented.
