Prosthetic joint infection: Case study and review of diagnosis and management

Surgical site infections are an infrequent but devastating complication of surgeries involving placement of prosthetic joints. Management of prosthetic joint infections can be prolonged and complicated, requiring close collaboration between infectious disease and orthopedic specialists. We present a typical case of hip prosthesis infection and review the clinical presentation, diagnosis, as well as surgical and medical management. Copyright © 2012 by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
