The design of channel codes for improving the data rate and/or the reliability of communications over fading channels using multiple transmit antennas is considered. A design criterion is provided and is then used to design space-time codes for high data rate wireless communication. These codes are trellis codes that are easy to encode and decode and have remarkable performance. © 1997 IEEE.
