Optical signal distribution via planer waveguides and substrate mode propagation, using epitaxial liftoff of emitters and detectors, and lightwaves for signal distribution and fanout was investigated. The optical signal routing system is configured to enable easy interfacing with silicon circuitry. Alignment tolerances of the system are analyzed and experimentally evaluated for both substrate mode propagation and waveguide mode propagation.
