A three-dimensional MEMS optical crossconnect (OXC) switch fabric is described. The fabric design has two critical performance characteristics, one is the insertion loss and loss variation across possible connections, and another is the stability of optical connections over time. The technology is scaleable to much larger size switch fabrics.
