Massive sulphide-sulphate-oxides from the Broken Spur hydrothermal field have been examined to determine their mineralogical, chemical and sulphur isotope characteristics. The chimney and spire samples are dominated by chalcopyrite--isocubanite-pyrrhotite-anhydrite, with the uppermost active areas composed of anhydrite-rich "beehive' structures. Delicate "organ-pipe' chimney tips grow on the beehive structures. Samples from mounds and the base of active edifices are more enriched in Fe disulphides and sphalerite, with significant amounts of Fe oxyhydroxides and amorphous silica. Sulphur isotope values of sulphides range from -0.8 to 2.4‰, similar to those reported from the Snakepit hydrothermal vent field. -from Authors
