Scatter compensation techniques for spect

Compton scattered photons included within the photo-peakpulse-height window decrease the image contrastsof lesions. Furthermore, in the absence of aneffective compensation procedure, the accuracy of theSPECT measurement is reduced. In the following sectionsthe effect of scatter on SPECT is reviewed, andthe influence of scattered photons on the effectivelinear attenuation coefficient used with multiplicativeattenuation compensation methods is described.Criteria for evaluating scatter compensation proceduresare proposed, and approaches to reducing theeffect of scatter on SPECT imaging are described.
