Flutter and lco of an all-movable horizontal tail with freeplay
In this paper, the impact of freeplay on flutter and limit-cycle oscillation (LCO) of an allmovable horizontal tail is studied. A 3D finite element model and a 3D finite volume model with unstructured gird of the all-movable horizontal tail are established, respectively. Then the aeroelasticity analysis is performed of the flutter and nonlinear limit cycle oscillations (LCO) induced by a freeplay gap in the actuating mechanism at the root of the tail. A higher-order time-accurate on moving grids, radial based function(RBF) algorithm is used for exchanging aerodynamic loading and structural deformation data at the fluid-structure interface. By using this new methodology, the computed flutter speed and flutter frequency agree very well with the experimental data. ©2012 AIAA.
