Stability of a strongly-attractive, two-component Fermi gas

Using a simple model, we show that a strongly-attractive, two-component Fermi gas of atoms should be mechanically stable as a consequence of unitarity. We demonstrate this stability experimentally in a degenerate gas of 6Li atoms. ©2000 Optical Society of America.
