Catalytic chemical vapor deposition of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely studied in chemistry, physics, and material science because of their unique structures and properties. The progresses of fundamental research and applications in the field are closely linked to the preparation of high-quality CNTs via controllable routes. Without the constantly improving methods of nanotube synthesis, many applications would not be possible. The aim of this chapter is to provide an introduction to the recent developments of chemical vapor depositions (CVDs) of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). A variety of CVD techniques have been introduced, and related experimental issues are discussed. Additional challenges in the field of nanotube synthesis are also explained in the chapter. © 2006 Copyright © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
