Overview

Erin is a third-year Ph.D. candidate at Duke University in Biomedical Engineering. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 2023 with a B.S. in Optical Engineering and a B.A. in Chemistry. At the Institute of Optics, she concentrated on optical design, laying a strong foundation for her current research in biomedical imaging. She conducts her research in the BIOS Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Adam Wax, specializing in spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (SOCT). Her work focuses on characterizing nuclear signatures in normal and dysplastic tissues to enable real-time, objective diagnosis of epithelial carcinomas.

Beyond the lab, Erin spends her time dancing, playing the cello, and exploring new recipes.

Spectroscopic correlation tomography (SpCT) for visualization of spatial correlations in volumetric OCT scans.

Journal article Biomed Opt Express · July 1, 2026 Spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (SOCT) allows for the targeted analysis of cell nuclei due to their spectrally distinct scattering properties. SOCT has been explored for optical biopsy based on its ability to extract structural and spectroscopic ... Full text Link to item Cite

Spectroscopic analysis of volumetric OCT data for the automated measurement of scatterer size.

Journal article Journal of the Optical Society of America. A, Optics, image science, and vision · September 2025 Spectroscopic optical coherence tomography enables an accurate estimation of scatterer size by computing the correlation distance (CD) function. For calibration and accuracy verification, polystyrene spheres are commonly used as size standards. However, an ... Full text Cite
