Overview


I am an Egyptian Nubian PhD Cultural Anthropology student at Duke University. My research project investigates at the different potentialities in circulating endangered sound archives, with a particular focus on those associated with the Save Nubia campaign (1964) in Egypt. The circulation of Nubia's sound archive is planned to be circulated amongst Nubians in Egypt and in Kenya. I have completed my MA degree (2021) in Sociology-Anthropology at the American University in Cairo (AUC). My MA dissertation is titled On Displacement and Music: Embodiments of Contemporary Nubian Music in the Nubian Resettlementsand is currently under review for publication with Cairo Papers, the American University Press. I have served as an Adjunct Lecturer of Music (2022-2024) at the AUC.

My research interests are around: Nubia, Egypt, music, migration, displacement, archives, salvage anthropology, UNESCO.
