Overview
Katarina Ivette Cruz Padilla is a multimedia artist and dedicated storyteller specializing in the explorations of the body-mind complex. Born in New York City and raised in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Amherst College, with dual concentrations in Black Studies and Performance Studies. Alongside a career in corporate talent acquisition, Katarina founded her independent production company, Popcorn Ceiling Productions LLC. As an experimental filmmaker, her visual work utilizes high-contrast aesthetics and Butoh-inspired performance art to explore identity and consciousness. Her recent short film, Reflections in Gold: Vivarta, earned nominations at the Berlin Women's Cinema Festival and the Cannes Art Film Festival, and is scheduled for a Summer 2026 screening by NewFilmmakers NY. Katarina is entering the MFA:EDA program at Duke University to further refine her skills in experimental and documentary arts, focusing on the intersection of physical performance and virtual environments.
