Development of courses/educational programs
- Chief Academic Fellow: Over the course of the year, Dr. O'Brian planned the academic curriculum for the pediatric emergency medicine fellows organizing lectures, simulations, and procedure labs. Inova Children’s Hospital. 2018 – 2019
- Pediatric trauma simulation curriculum development: In conjunction with trauma surgery colleagues, our team developed an in-situ, multidisciplinary trauma simulation curriculum in which simulations occur monthly in the pediatric emergency department and focus on completion of the primary and secondary trauma surveys in children. Duke University Medical Center. 2021 - present
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine Curriculum for Pediatric Residency: I revised the goals and objectives for this rotation. I revised the on-line resources. I updated learning activities. Duke University Medical Center. 2022 - present
- Pediatric ECMO Deployment Simulations: In conjunction with PICU colleagues, our team instituted and oversaw quarterly in-situ, multidisciplinary pediatric ECMO simulations in the pediatric emergency department focusing on deployment and the transfer of care from the emergency department to the ICU. Duke University Medical Center. 2023 - present
- Pediatric Capstone Simulation Cases: With the assistance of Dr. Jamie Fox, I developed 3 pediatric simulation scenarios focused on pediatric critical care for the 4th year Capstone Court (450C). Duke University School of Medicine. 2023 - 2024.
