Overview

Sarah is a second-year Master’s student in the Department of Population Health Sciences. She has an academic background in Medical Sociology and Biomedical Sciences, and her work focuses on the integration of emerging technologies into healthcare systems, particularly the ethical and equitable implementation of genomic medicine.

She serves as the project manager for the Data Science in Clinical Care Bass Connections team, led by Dr. Nina Sperber and Dr. Adam Johnson. Their team uses participatory system dynamics modeling to both evaluate the use of existing clinical decision support tools at Duke and inform the development of new tools.

Sarah also collaborates with Dr. Jennifer Cohen, a medical geneticist, on a project aimed at advancing precision care in pregnancy through an actionable fetal findings list, using diverse genomic data to promote equitable outcomes. As part of this project, Dr. Cohen is developing a machine‑learning-based tool that uses pregnancy health factors to predict the likelihood of fetal genetic disease, and Sarah is conducting interviews with perinatal clinicians to inform the tool’s development.
