Xiayun Zhou is a Lecturer of Chinese language at Duke kunshan University. She received her master degree in Teaching Chinese as Second Language from Fudan University. 

She joined Duke Kunshan University in 2014 and has been teaching Chinese language at various levels for both students and faculty. As a Kun Opera lover, she participated and organized a good deal of Kun Opera activities including Kun Opera singing classes, make-up workshops, Kun Opera Museum visit, etc. She also serves as student advisor to offer students help and support in their college life. 

She did Wu dialect research together with Don Snow and Senyao Shen based on Kun Opera scripts. She is also interested in action research that could benefit Chinese teaching in the classroom. For instance, she is writing Chinese songs for beginner-level Chinese language learners with Maximiliano Amici, Assistant Professor of Music and Composition at Duke Kunshan University. The project aims to provide a fun way for Chinese learners to learn the language.

She received her ACTEL OPI Tester Full Certificate in 2023, which enables her to do unofficial OPI for Chinese learners at Duke Kunshan University.
