Dr. Jocelyn Baumel is a current PGY3 pediatric neurology resident at Duke. She is interested in the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) research. She is currently working on a manuscript that describes how a biomarker commonly used in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) could help diagnose behavioral, cognitive and psychiatric symptoms in TSC called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND). Dr. Baumel provides mentorship to Cynthia Ding, a Duke undergraduate, who is assisting her in writing the manuscript. Cynthia has also submitted an abstract related to this work to the Duke Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Dr. Michael Terranova is a PGY1 prelim in the Duke neurology residency program. He plans to become an academic behavioral neurologist after completing his training. He is currently writing a manuscript linking the pathogenesis of TSC to AD. He is also providing mentorship to Sara Oberle, a Duke Undergraduate, who will be assisting him with the manuscript. Sara plans to submit an abstract to the Duke-UNC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) SLAM-DUNC research symposium in 2026.

Drs. Dylan Ryan and Joel Page IV are recent graduates of the stroke and epilepsy fellowships respectively here at Duke. Dr. Ryan has since joined the Duke stroke division as a faculty member and is focused on developing a clinical algorithm aimed at discerning the optimal treatment approach for patients receiving anti-amyloid therapies who present with stroke syndromes and are candidates for the administration of alteplase. Dr. Page IV is now in his behavioral neurology fellowship at the University of Florida. While at Duke he was interested in investigating novel biomarkers for the detection of ARIA in patients receiving lecanemab.

Dr. Deborah Rose graduated from the neurology resident here at Duke in 2024. She is now a Behavioral Neurology Fellow at a combined program with Johns Hopkins University and the NIA. She will gain clinical experience in behavioral neurology while conducting research to establish how Adverse Childhood Events contribute to the development and possibly explain the racial disparities in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in minoritized groups.

I also served on the dissertation committee for the graduate student Sebnem Eren Cevik at North Carolina State University in 2023. Dr. Eren Cevik completed her defense and now works at Duke University. James Park is a current graduate student in the Department of Bioinformatics at North Carolina State University. I currently serve as a dissertation committee member to James as well.

Bryce Polascik, a medical student at Wake Forest University medical school class of 2025 and Sanya Shah a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, are interested in the clinical characterization of convalescent COVID-19 patients. They published 2 manuscripts describing the neurological outcomes after contracting COVID-19. Sanya Shah graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2023. She began her medical school training in 2025 at UNC. Sam Ndukwe matriculated into his first year of medical school in 2023. I currently serve as his medical student mentor.

Charlotte Jones graduated from Duke University in 2023. She is a current clinical research coordinator at NYU and aims to pursue a career in medicine after taking a gap year.
