Roy Allan Greengrass
Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology

My current research interests include: 1)Evaluation of syringe pumps containing local anesthetics to enable ambulatory surgery for procedures normally requiring admission for control of pain. 2)Evaluation of the use of local anesthetic encapsulated in liposomes to provide prolonged analgesia. Potential uses of such agents would be in both acute and chronic pain. 3)Comparison of different regional anesthetic techniques to evaluate which is the most efficient. 4)Evaluation of steroid/serotonin antagonist combinations to decrease nausea and vomiting associated with general anesthesia. 5)Comparison of general anesthesitcs/narcotics vs. regional anesthesia on immunologic function postoperatively. 6)Comparison of general anesthesia vs. paravertebral block on outcome following breast cancer surgery. 7)PHarmacologic studies looking at blood levels and local anesthetics associated with the use of continuous catheters. 8)Outcome studies comparing general anesthesia vs. regional anesteshia for various orthopedic and general surgery procedures.
