Henry Christian Eyring

Assistant Professor of Business Administration
Fuqua School of Business

Overview

Prof. Eyring's research focuses on tools to improve value, defined as high quality provided at a low cost, especially in Health Care. He conducts field experiments on multiple large hospital and government health care systems, including: Duke Health; University of Utah Health; UChicago Health; and the El Salvadoran Ministry of Health.

In addition to this research, he advises federal and state officials as well as industry leaders regarding health care market structure. This is reflected in his executive education and MBA course materials and pedagogical contributions. These works include a 2025 Harvard Business School case on Humana and their approach to value-based care through the Medicare Advantage market.

The theory that guides Prof. Eyring's work in this area is his "Value Triangle" theory. That theory stipulates that decision-makers must have all three components in hand to generate value.

1) Autonomy
2) Information
3) Incentives

An overarching goal of Prof. Eyring's work is to introduce and support the development of policies and management practices that introduce a value triangle in health care.

Prof. Eyring holds a DBA from Harvard Business School. Before joining Duke, he was an assistant professor at the London School of Economics.
