Ph.D. Candidate in American Religious History

Current Research Interests

I am a fifth-year Ph.D. Candidate in American Religious History in the writing stage of my dissertation.  My project focuses on the increasing number of large organizations within American Christianity and the ways this emphasis on size reflects, accommodates and challenges neoliberalism, evangelical theology, and concentration in other spheres of American life.  It explores the history of contemporary megachurches and other megaministries to gain insight into the ways this shift has been simultaneously innovative and historically contingent.  Other research interests include religion and economics, religion and politics, religion and media, social organization of American religion, and the ways that theology influences people's everyday lives.
