Lecturing Fellow of Economics
Economics

Overview

Linsey L. Hughes works closely with students pursuing their MA in Economics, serving as a career advisor and professional mentor for students who are engaged in the job-seeking process.  She also teaches a course called “Inside Hedge Funds” to economics majors seeking an introduction into the world of hedge funds and their growing influence on Wall Street.  The course traces the evolution of hedge funds, their structure, investment strategies and provides an inside look into these businesses.  Material focuses on how hedge funds have become the most prolific investment vehicles in the world, why they have become the key customer base to investment banks and how any Wall Streeter is sure to “touch” a hedge fund at some point in their career.

Linsey L. Hughes is a 15+ year Wall Street veteran, with an expertise in the investment alternatives space.  At nearly every point in her career, she has worked with hedge funds intimately as clients or as an employee on the inside.  Most notably, Linsey spent 6 years as a Director with Deutsche Bank’s Hedge Fund Capital Group in New York.  She advised existing and start-up hedge fund clients on how to grow their businesses, raise capital and run a business that investors will embrace.  She knows how to evaluate the potential success of hedge fund managers and taught managers how to focus their pitch to investors.  Linsey has worked in several asset classes, making her well-versed on a variety of hedge fund strategies and therefore has a broad-base of knowledge.  These products include foreign currency, credit default swaps and the equity markets.  Linsey received her undergraduate BA degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and her MBA from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management.

Linsey is one of the Founding Members of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds’ NC chapter and serves on the North Carolina CFA Society Board.  She lives in Durham, NC with her husband and two sons.
