Overview


Lynn Holmes, Visiting Professor of the Practice, has served in leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. She began her more than twenty-year career with BellSouth Corporation (now AT&T0 as a legislative lobbyist in the Washington, D.C. office.  She served, also, as BellSouth’s principal state lobbyist in North Carolina and as Vice-President-Regulatory and External Affairs in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her time at the corporation also included the role of Assistant Vice-President-Ethics and Compliance where she provided senior leadership for the corporation’s ethics, compliance, and policy governance activities and programs. Before joining BellSouth, she served as a legislative counsel in the United States Senate.

Holmes served for two years as Chairman and Administrator of the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.  As a gubernatorial appointee and member of the governor’s cabinet, she led the state agency responsible for unemployment insurance, employment services and labor market information.

Holmes graduated from Mount Holyoke College, cum laude, and from the Georgetown University Law Center.  She is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Duke Divinity School.
