Jennifer D'Arcy Maher is Associate Dean for International Studies at Duke Law School and a Senior Lecturing Fellow. She teaches U.S. Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing for International Students, a required course for LL.M. students from non-English-speaking countries.
Ms. Maher has taught Introduction to American Law, as well as lectured on U.S. legal education to visiting scholars. She coordinates meetings at international legal institutions for Duke Law LL.M. and JD/LL.M. students, and special visits to U.S. legal institutions, such as the U.S. Supreme Court, for LL.M. students and visiting scholars. Ms. Maher works with the Duke Law Career Services Office to promote placement of international students at U.S. law firms, and overseas placement of Duke Law students generally. With the Alumni and Development Office, she coordinates overseas alumni events and Board of Visitors meetings. She is the administrator of the Duke/Geneva Institute of Transnational Law, a four-week comparative and international law program conducted in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ms. Maher was a member of the Editorial Board of the Duke Law Journal and the Duke Law School Moot Court Board, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. After graduation, she practiced with the Raleigh, N.C., law firm of Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell, and Jernigan before joining the Duke Law faculty in 1987. Ms. Maher has served as the Chair of the Association of American Law Schools' Section on Graduate Programs for Foreign Lawyers and of the North Carolina Bar Association's International Law and Practice Section.
