Melissa Palmer

I provide administrative support for Joseph Heitman, both in his capacity as MGM Chair and faculty member. I coordinate grant preperation aspects of Dr. Heitman’s financial resources, monitoring expenditures and reviewing monthly financial reports including financial projections. In addition, I coordinate the appointment, promotion, and tenure (APT) process for all faculty, preparing APT dossiers and packets in preparation for School of Medicine review, retiring faculty, and sabbaticals.  I also coordinate the MGM website and Newsletter working with the communications team within MGM and the SOM.  I am on the SOM Web Advisory Committee and part of the SOM Communicators group.  I am the adminstrative coordinator for the Tri-Institutional (Duke, UNC-CH, NCSU) Molecular Mycology and Pathogenesis Program directed by Dr. Joseph Heitman and coordinate the annual reserach symposium.  I also help coordinate several committees within the department and SOM including the Climate Impact in Fungi Committee and the National Academy of Medinice Committee and coordinate the monthly Duke University Mycology Research Unit virtual seminars.
