Michael Gaffney

Michael Gaffney is a Ph.D. candidate in the Program in Literature at Duke University. He received a B.A. from Middlebury College in 2013. Drawing on literary theory, environmental history, and science studies, Michael’s current research project argues for the necessity of understanding climate change within deep history, primarily through an inquiry into scientific and literary representations of the ice age. His other interests include science fiction and twentieth-century U.S. literature, both of which continue to inform his research in the environmental humanities.
