Overview

Master of Computational Media
My current research focuses on the intersection of Contemporary Media Theory and Political Economy. Specifically, I'm interested in how the prevalent use of digital algorithms in decision-making processes across different industries and channels of mediation reshapes social structures, modes of economics, public ideology, epistemology, social production and reproduction, etc. My potential thesis aims at studying how popular algorithms such as Decision Trees, ANN, CNN translate meanings from "reality" (analog) into digital-epistemologically produced version of "knowledge" and "conclusions". Through looking at the technical details of machine learning processes, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of our "post-algorithmic" world and what it means for our society dictated by digital epistemology and "smartness".

Prior to Duke AAHVS, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media & Arts (History) from Duke Kunshan University, where I developed interest and experience in media theory, political economy, history and history of art, as well as other fields across humanities and social sciences. I participated in DKU HCI Lab, research on history of films in WWII, Curatorial projects, Entrepreneurial projects, and Animation productions.
